Shabonee Newsletter - Third Grade One Book, Performances and more...

Congratulations to our Third Graders

Our third graders truly had a marvelous performance this past Tuesday! It was a joy to see their hard work come to life on stage. A huge thank you to our music teacher, Ms. Simonsen, our art teachers Ms. Keene and Mrs. Smith, the third grade teachers, Mr. Ted, and Mr. Keith, for their dedication in creating such a magical and memorable experience for our students.

One Grade, One Book: Third Grade Kickoff!

We are thrilled to officially launch the "One Grade, One Book" activity for our third graders! This week, every student in the grade will have the opportunity to begin reading the same exciting mystery: Mr. Lemoncello’s Very First Game.

As students transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," this activity encourages them to build stamina with longer chapter books in a fun, shared community experience.

How to participate:

  • Listen Along: To support all readers, our teachers and staff have recorded themselves reading each chapter. Students can choose to listen as they follow along!
  • Get Involved: Look out for interactive activities and updates from your child’s teacher as we progress through the story.
  • Family Reading: We encourage parents and siblings to read together at home. It’s a wonderful way to get lost in a great mystery and celebrate a love of reading as a family!

Ramadan

Muslims around the world will be observing the holiest month of the Muslim calendar, Ramadan. At Shabonee, we recognize that some of our students might be fasting as part of their observance. In support of our students, if accommodations need to be made for lunchtime or physical education, please reach out to the teachers or Dr. Panozzo to arrange that support. Ramadan Mubarak.

When a Child is Too Sick for School - From the Health Office (Repost)

As we are now in the cold and flu season, parents may wonder when to send their children to school or to keep them at home. Our district nursing staff have guidelines for parents posted on the District web Health Resources. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Nurse Kate in the Shabonee health office.

A child MUST be kept at home for:

  • A fever of 100.0°F or higher
  • If your child is vomiting
  • If your child has diarrhea
  • If your child has been diagnosed with influenza (flu)

Note: This is not an exhaustive list. Giving fever-reducing medication and sending the student to school when they are feeling ill or have a fever is discouraged.
