Happy Thanksgiving  

On behalf of the entire Shabonee staff, we want to wish all of our families a very Happy Thanksgiving next week. We are truly thankful for our collaboration with you throughout the school year. All District 27 schools and offices will be closed for the Thanksgiving break between November 27 and 29. School resumes on Monday, December 2. 

Scoreboard 

In the spirit of giving thanks, we are thrilled to share some exciting news with our school community! Thanks to the incredible generosity and support of the Shabonee PTA, we now have a brand-new scoreboard for our gym. This new addition will enhance the experience for our students during PE for many years to come! Thank you to our PTA!

First Trimester Report Cards Are Now Open

Parents can now access the first trimester report cards via Parent Portal. Report cards are available electronically upon the conclusion of the first and second trimesters, and a paper copy will go home with students on the last day of the third trimester. 

For instructions on accessing your child's report card on Infinite Campus, view this 30-second video. The first section of the video is for Wood Oaks students, and the second section addresses kindergarten through fifth grade

 In Summary: 

1. To access your child's report, log into Parent Portal. 
2. Then on the left click "More." On the new main window, you can now click "Online report cards." 
3. You will need to choose your child's name from the drop-down menu and then the report card you wish to view. 

Terra Nova 

Terra Nova testing will take place during a portion of the morning from December 3 through December 5. Make-up testing will begin on Friday, December 6. We’ll run a special schedule so that children have comparable time with both of their teachers and content areas on testing days. To establish an optimal testing environment, please make every effort to ensure that your child arrives at school on time each of these three days. If at all possible, it is helpful to refrain from scheduling appointments during the morning. Students who arrive late will enter the classroom between tests. Some tests are very short, taking only 15 minutes, while others are about 45 minutes. Practice will take place on Monday, December 2. Finally, please ensure that students come to school with a fully charged Chromebook. Thank you for your support and cooperation. The results of these assessments will be sent home in late January.

Weather and Recess

While it's still officially fall on the calendar, the cold and snowy weather is upon us now. Children are encouraged to wear layers for a variety of activities that take place throughout the day. Please label your child's garments with their name to alleviate missing winter coats, gloves, hats, scarves, etc... It’s incredible that missing items pile up so quickly! Encourage your child to check the lost and found in the coming weeks if they are missing anything. Children are strongly encouraged to wear snow gear to play in the snow. We go outside for recess unless:

1. The temperature is below 15 degrees.
2. Heavy new snow of three inches or more
3. Rain, regardless of the amount
4. When combined with the wind speed, the temperature produces a wind chill of 10 degrees or below.

Lost and Found

There are many items waiting to be reunited with their owners! Everything is on display for children or parents to retrieve before winter break. Anything remaining at the winter break will be donated. Consider writing your child’s name on the tag of their jacket. We can easily return items when they are labeled.

Mark your calendars! There are several concerts coming up in December. Information will be shared by the music teachers and included in the next newsletter.
