School Year 2023-2024 Comes to a Close

As the students and staff begin their summer break, we want to express our gratitude to all our families and staff for their collaboration in helping our Shabonee Dolphins achieve academic and social-emotional success. The continuous support from our families plays a crucial role in ensuring our children have a happy and successful school year. I also want to extend a special thank you to our dedicated and generous PTA members for their invaluable assistance throughout the year. Their support and care have been remarkable. 

On behalf of the entire Shabonee staff, we wish everyone a wonderful summer!

Report Cards Now Open

The final report card will be available to parents in Parent Portal after 12:00 PM on June 6, and a printed copy will go home with the children. Report cards will be mailed home to parents of children who are not present on the last day of school. 

For instructions on accessing your child’s report card via Parent Portal, view this 30-second video. The first section of the video is for Wood Oaks students, and the second section addresses kindergarten through fifth grade. 

 In Summary: 

1. To access your child’s report, log into Parent Portal. 
2. Then on the left click “More.” On the new main window, you can now click Online report cards. 
3. Once you click on that, you will need to choose your child’s name from the drop-down menu, then the report card you wish to view.  

Reflex Math Open Through July

Math fact fluency refers to the ability to quickly and effortlessly recall basic multiplication and division facts. When children achieve automaticity with these facts, they can remember them without conscious effort. This mastery allows them to use their working memory for problem-solving and learning new concepts. However, when a child has not gained fluency, their progress in problem-solving is hindered because they are using their working memory to compute the operations instead.

To support your child's fluency development, the district has extended the Reflex Math membership through July. Your child can log into their account even after the school year ends. As a parent, you can also log in using your child's information to monitor their progress, which will help support their transition to the next grade. If your child has difficulty using the program, feel free to use flashcards or other online resources.

PTA School Supply Kit Ordering - Last Chance (OPTIONAL)  

Make sure to check out the school supply ordering information in the PTA section of the newsletter. This is not a fundraiser but a cost-effective way to help support parents for the fall. Supply lists are posted on the Shabonee website for families who choose to purchase supplies independently. 

Summer Reading

There are lots of good resources on our school library page if your child is looking for summer reading ideas. The Northbrook Public Library also offers summer reading opportunities. Check them out for more information.  

School Information in August 

We look forward to welcoming our incoming third, fourth, and fifth graders on Thursday, August 22, for the first day of the 2024-25 school year. Teacher assignments will be accessible through the Parent Portal system about a week before school starts in August. We will also send a mailing with other essential details for starting the school year. For additional information and updates throughout the summer, especially as the school year approaches, please check the Shabonee website.
