Happy Mother’s Day
Happy Mother’s Day to all of our Shabonee moms and the special women in our lives on Sunday. We hope you have a terrific day!

A heartfelt thank you to the Shabonee PTA and all of our families for the thoughtful and generous gestures during Educator Appreciation Week. Your kindness truly lifted our spirits and made the week feel special for our entire staff. We felt deeply appreciated, and it means so much to know how supported we are by our students and their families. It’s a privilege to be part of this community, working together to help our children thrive and find joy in learning.
Final PBIS Initiative of the School Year
Shabonee is making a splash with our final PBIS initiative of the year! Starting next week, students can earn special-edition "Dunkin’ Dollars" by practicing our two focus behaviors: following directions and using kind language. These dollars serve as entries for a chance to dunk a staff member on the last day of school! To kick things off, we are hosting an assembly on May 11, where students will learn the program details and compete in challenges to earn their team’s very first Dunkin’ Dollars. We look forward to using this exciting incentive to promote a positive, kind, and focused environment as we finish the school year strong.
Upcoming Music Performances
We have two final performances for band, orchestra, and chorus students.
- Tuesday, May 19 - 5th Grade
- Wednesday, May 27 - 4th Grade
Each concert has two performances: one at 2:15 for the school and another at 6:30 PM in the Shabonee Gym for families. The afternoon performance will be live-streamed for those families who cannot attend in the evening. A link to the stream will appear as a pop-up window on the Shabonee School website shortly before the performance starts.
All performers should start to arrive at 6:00 PM for the night concert and wear black music shirts, pants, and shoes. The doors will open at 6:00 PM. Please don't arrive earlier because the building will not be open. We encourage you to carpool with friends and neighbors as parking tends to fill up. Park only in dedicated parking spots, and be cautious when entering and leaving school grounds. Parking is available in the main lot located off Pfingsten Road, the west lot located off Moon Hill Drive, and overflow parking is available behind the gym once the parking lots are completely filled. You may enter at Doors A, N, or E. The gymnasium has stairs. Please contact the school office in advance if you have special needs accessing the space. We look forward to celebrating a year of music with everyone.

Family Night - Tonight, Friday, May 8
We hope to see you at the PTA-sponsored Family Night between 4:30 and 6:30 PM on the blacktop, playground, and field.
Please remember to adhere to parking restrictions in the fire lanes. Parking is available in the main lot off Pfingsten Road and in the west lot off Moon Hill Drive. We hope this is a great event for everyone! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please see the PTA section of this newsletter for more information about the event.
Take 3 Shabonee Library Books this Summer! (Repost)
All current 3rd-5th grade students can check out up to three books this summer and keep them until school begins in the fall, as long as they do not have any outstanding books or fees. 3rd and 4th grade students will return books to Shabonee, and 5th grade students will return books to Wood Oaks. Mrs. Alexander, Shabonee Librarian, will be talking with the children about this opportunity. Let’s not leave books on the shelves all summer… take them home and read!

PTA Optional School Supply Kit Ordering for 2026-27 (Repost)
Make sure to check out the school supply ordering information in the PTA section of the newsletter. This is not a fundraiser but a cost-effective way to help support parents for the fall. Supply lists for the coming year will be updated over the summer on the Shabonee website for families who choose to purchase supplies independently. This is for students entering grades 3-5 in the fall.
