Best Wishes to our Retirees
Please join us in wishing our three retiring staff members well as they finish their final week of school. Mrs. Feldmiller, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Singer have collectively educated thousands of wonderful children during their time in District 27.
- Mrs. Feldmiller has taught fourth grade at Shabonee and previously taught seventh-grade science at Wood Oaks.
- Mrs. Miller has been the Shabonee school psychologist since 2002, supporting many students and their families over the last 22 years.
- Mrs. Singer has held various positions in District 27, including classroom teacher at Grove and Shabonee, K-5 reading coordinator, and reading specialist at Shabonee.
These passionate educators have significantly contributed to the success of our children. We wish each of them well as they embark on new journeys.
Wednesday, June 5 - Bring bags to school to transport items home
Everything in lockers, desks, and classrooms that belong to your child must go home or be donated. You may want to send a few reusable bags to school with your child so they can transport items easily. Donation boxes are available throughout the building for gently used items such as notebooks, pencils, markers, etc.
No Hot Lunch Last Week of School
This is a reminder that May 31 was the last day for Hot Lunch. Please remember to send your child with a lunch on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week.
End-of-Year Information - Early Release on June 6th (Repost)
The last day of school will be held on Thursday, June 6th, with an adjusted bell schedule and early release. Please take a moment to review this information. Shabonee hours for students on June 6 will be from 9:00 AM to noon. The bus schedule will be adjusted 20 minutes later than the regular pick-up time in the morning.
Take 2 Shabonee Library Books this Summer (Repost)
All current 3rd-5th grade students can check out two books this summer and keep them until the school year begins in August, as long as they do not have any outstanding books or fees. Third and fourth grade students will return books to Shabonee, and fifth grade students will return books to Wood Oaks.
Click here for a digital copy of the permission slip.
Summer Reading Books (Repost)
The PTA is graciously sponsoring a book for current second, third, and fourth grade students to read over the summer. The teachers are planning activities using the books in the fall when the children return to Shabonee. Some children may choose to read the book independently, while others may want to read with a parent or adult. We hope the children enjoy the books!

Lost and Found (Repost)
The lost and found collection is still growing instead of shrinking. Everything is on display through the last day of school. If your child is missing something, please encourage them to take a moment to check the tables and coat rack. Everything remaining on the last day of school will either be donated or thrown away.
Field Day - June 5 (Repost)
The annual Shabonee field day will take place on Wednesday, June 5. Activities will be scheduled during a portion of the morning and afternoon, both inside and outside. If the weather does not cooperate, we will only hold indoor events. We will have a picnic-style lunch in the gym on this date, so children are encouraged to bring a towel to sit on during lunch.
Children are encouraged to bring sunscreen for field day and dress appropriately for the weather and physical activity. Students must put on their own sunscreen or come to school with it already on and reapply during the day. Staff will not be expected to apply sunscreen to the children. Due to allergy issues, children will not be allowed to share sunscreen. We look forward to some fun as we celebrate the end of the school year.
PTA School Supply Kit Ordering (OPTIONAL)
Make sure to check out the school supply ordering information in the PTA section of the newsletter. This is not a fundraiser but a cost-effective way to help support parents for the fall. Supply lists are posted on the Shabonee website for families who choose to purchase supplies independently.
Report Card Access on June 6 at Noon (Repost)
The final report card will be available to parents in Parent Portal after 12:00 PM on June 6, and a printed copy will go home with the children. Report cards will be mailed home to parents of children who are not present on the last day of school.
For instructions on accessing your child’s report card via Parent Portal, view this 30-second video. The first section of the video is for Wood Oaks students, and the second section addresses kindergarten through fifth grade.
In Summary:
- To access your child’s report, log into Parent Portal.
- Then on the left click “More.” On the new main window, you can now click Online report cards.
Once you click on that, you will need to choose your child’s name from the drop-down menu, then the report card you wish to view.
