PBIS SWIM Day

In an effort to promote and sustain a positive school environment, Shabonee dolphins will be revisiting some of our SWIM themes on January 27. Strategies and tools will be shared with students to promote respect, responsibility, and kindness with following instructions, minimizing disruptions, and regulating emotions. The children will learn life-long skills to apply strategies to be successful in a variety of settings in a fun and interactive setting.

School Office Closes at 3:30 PM on January 22

The School Office will close early at 3:30 PM on January 22 for essential school training. Please call the District Office at (847) 498-2610 if you need immediate assistance.

National Black History Month

District 27 will be recognizing National Black History Month from Feb. 1 to March 1. This is a time to recognize the contributions and achievements of African Americans, including their central role in U.S. history. It serves as an important reminder of the challenges faced and progress made throughout time. Throughout the month, we will have recognition displays in the building, and the morning announcements will feature a question of the week. Students will also have access to a digital bookshelf to learn more.

Parent-Teacher Conferences in February (repost)

Parent-teacher conferences will take place on February 12, 13, & 14 at Shabonee. Conferences are 15 minutes so that parents can meet with both teachers together. It’s important that parents respect this time so that teachers can collaborate with all parents of their students.

Parents and guardians will receive an email in the morning on January 21 with their credentials to register for Parent-Teacher conferences through our online portal, Meet the Teacher. Please watch for this email and contact our office staff if you don’t receive it. Registration for conferences will open on January 21 at 9 AM and will remain open until February 7 at 4 PM.

Parent-teacher conferences are just one of the opportunities to talk about progress and parents are welcome and encouraged to reach out to their child’s teacher(s) at any time during the school year. It’s through our collaborative efforts that our students achieve success.

ACCESS Testing for English Learners

The state of Illinois requires schools to administer the ACCESS test to all EL students. The test is administered every year to help school districts monitor the English language development of students identified as English language learners. ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 measures students’ ability to understand and produce English used within school settings. The four sections of the test are Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. We will administer the assessment over the next few weeks. The results of the test will be sent home in June. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s EL teacher.
