District 27 Mental Health & Wellness Fair
Calling all Dolphins: The Mental Health & Wellness Fair has a great volunteer opportunity! The PTA is looking for a few Shabonee students who will volunteer to run the Shabonee booth (Help guests create kindness rocks to be sprinkled throughout the community or taken home that day!) at the wellness fair on Saturday, February 22nd, at Wood Oaks school. We need 2 volunteers from 10-11 am, and 2 more from 11-12 pm. Volunteers may also stay for the entire time! All materials will be provided. There will be Wood Oaks students helping to supervise the Shabonee students running the booth. This is a great opportunity for some community service volunteer work while also interacting with fellow District 27 students and community members. If you would like to sign your student up, please fill in this google form. Once the form is filled out, the wellness team will reach out to you to confirm if your student has been given a volunteer spot. Note: The PTA will do its best to honor all requests!
Parent-Teacher Conferences in February (repost)
Parent-teacher conferences will take place on February 12, 13, & 14 at Shabonee. Conferences are 15 minutes so that parents can meet with both teachers together. It’s important that parents respect this time so that teachers can collaborate with all parents of their students.
The conference sign-up system is open through February 7. Information about how to sign up for a conference with your child’s teachers was emailed to parents. If you did not receive an email or have questions, please contact the Shabonee office. Parent-teacher conferences are just one of the opportunities to talk about progress and parents are welcome and encouraged to reach out to their child’s teacher(s) at any time during the school year.
National Black History Month (repost)
District 27 will be recognizing National Black History Month from Feb. 3 to February 28. This is a time to recognize the contributions and achievements of African Americans, including their central role in U.S. history. It serves as an important reminder of the challenges faced and progress made throughout time. Throughout the month, we will have recognition displays in the building, and the morning announcements will feature a question of the week. Students will also have access to a digital bookshelf to learn more.
Valentine's Day Celebrations (repost)
Classroom Valentine celebrations will take place on Friday, February 14 at the end of the afternoon. Children may bring Valentine's cards as long as they include everyone in their class. If they have friends in other classes, those cards should be distributed outside of school since they won’t be able to visit other classrooms during the day. To maintain our safety practices and encourage healthy eating, please do not include candy, even as part of the card. The teachers are talking with the children about this to encourage a fun and happy experience for the whole class. Thank you for being so cooperative in making the parties a happy and safe occasion for everyone.
