Shabonee Newsletter 5-7-21

There is no school on Friday, May 14, for teacher institute day.

The staff is very grateful for the kind and thoughtful appreciation shown by the PTA, and all the families that provided special activities, and treats throughout teacher appreciation week. The week began with messages of support in sidewalk chalk from children as staff entered the building on Monday morning. From individual Nothing Bundt Cakes, candy, churros, lunch, guac and chips, to flowers purchased by the kids, it was an incredibly heartfelt week of celebration. The support from families has been outstanding and a true testament to our collaboration to benefit the children.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our moms and the special women in our lives on Sunday! We hope you have a terrific day.

Dismissal Traffic and No Pets

Our dismissal continues to progress safely and efficiently, often finishing in less than 15 minutes. We appreciate the support and patience from those that pick up in the car line. If you arrive using Moon Hill Drive to Shabonee Trail, please use your turn signal if heading to the third grade pick up line. This helps the staff guide vehicles better and will help the car line move even better. Please continue to drive cautiously at all times on school grounds.

As a reminder, pets are not allowed on school property.

PTA School Supply Kit Ordering (OPTIONAL) for incoming 2021-22 Grades 3, 4, & 5

We are looking ahead to the fall already. The Shabonee PTA organizes school supply kits that you can order online and have delivered to your child’s classroom in lieu of heading to the store and purchasing supplies on your own. This is a great time and money saver!

To submit your order:

  1. Go to www.EducationalProducts.com/ShopPacks
  2. Enter School ID SHA082

The Deadline to order is June 6. For any questions, please contact Apryl Schlueter at apryl@aprylschlueter.com

Attention Parents of 5th Graders

The deadline to submit the World Language and Elective Choice Google Forms to Wood Oaks is today. Dr. McElligott reports that he is still missing forms from over 50 families at this point. If you have not yet submitted those forms to Wood Oaks, please use the hyperlinks above to submit those scheduling requests for next year.

IAR Grades 3-8 (Reminder)

As Dr. Kroeze shared a few weeks ago, the Department of Education continues to require all states to administer their state assessments. Unfortunately, no changes have been made by the Illinois State Board of Education to reduce the testing requirements in light of the pandemic, despite our best efforts and requests made to the state superintendent and Governor. Therefore, our District is moving forward with implementing a spring testing schedule that brings as minimal disruption to our students as possible. Shabonee students will take the following assessments in the coming weeks:

IL Assessment of Readiness (IAR) – This is the mandated state testing in reading/LA and math for grades 3-8. IAR was previously known as PARCC. Shabonee will administer this testing on May 10, 11, and 12. There will be a session at the start of the day and another session immediately following the lunch/recess break. We appreciate all you can do to have children arrive at school on time and avoid pulling students out of school for any appointments on testing dates. Children working remotely should follow the schedule on the teacher’s Canvas page.

Headphones Are Needed for School (Reminder)

Students are expected to have a working set of headphones at school for the variety of learning that takes place. Please check with your child to make sure they have a working set. An inexpensive set for school is all that's needed. Students will need these devices for the IAR assessment.
