Shabonee Newsletter 5-28-21

There is no school on Monday, May 31 in honor of Memorial Day.

Field Day Scheduled for June 1

Field day will take place on Tuesday, June 1. The activities planned have incorporated health/safety practices so that we can have fun and still ensure that everyone follows the appropriate health criteria. The activities will be scheduled during a portion of the morning or the afternoon by classroom partnership. Unfortunately, the events will be canceled due to the space needed outside if the weather does not cooperate. Remote students will participate asynchronously in field day activities posted in Canvas.

Children are encouraged to bring sunscreen for field day and dress appropriately for the weather and physical activity. Students must put on their own sunscreen or come to school with it already on and reapply during the day. Staff will not be expected to apply sunscreen to the children. Due to allergy issues, children will not be allowed to share sunscreen. We look forward to some fun as we celebrate the end of the school year.

Finally, we’ll hold lunch picnic style on June 1. A small “easy to carry” towel to sit on would work great for this activity.

The last day of school for Shabonee students is Wednesday, June 2, from 9:00 AM to Noon. There is no lunch period, and buses will run a special schedule in the morning and a typical dismissal route at noon.

Report Card Access (Noon on June 2)

Parents can access the third trimester report cards electronically on June 2 after 12:00 PM via Parent Portal. You will need the same login and password that you used for registration.

For instructions on accessing your child’s report card on Infinite Campus, view this 30-second video. The first section of the video is for Wood Oaks students, and the second section addresses kindergarten through fifth grade.

Here is a summary of the steps:

  1. To access your child’s report, log into Parent Portal.
  2. Then on the left click “More.” On the new main window, you can now click Online report cards.
  3. Once you click on that, you will need to choose your child’s name from the drop-down menu, then the report card you wish to view.

Chromebook Collection (reminder)

Students will be turning in their district-issued Chromebooks, chargers, and bags to assess each device and prepare them for the next school year.

  • Grade 5 students was on Friday, May 28
  • Grades 3 & 4 on Tuesday, June 1
  • Parents of fully remote students will drop off their devices in the afternoon of Wednesday, June 2, between 2:00 and 3:00 at Door A.

Please feel free to reach out to the technology department (enfield.c@nb27.org) if you have any questions or concerns.

Reflex Math Open Through July 31 (reminder)

Math fact fluency refers to the ability to accurately recall the basic facts in multiplication and division, quickly and effortlessly. When children gain automaticity with these facts, they have attained mastery that allows them to remember them without conscious effort or attention. Children who have achieved fluency can devote their working memory to problem-solving and learning new concepts and skills. When a child has not gained fluency, it hinders progress with problem-solving as the child is using the working memory to compute the operation instead. To help support your child’s fluency growth, the district has extended the Reflex Math membership through at least July 31, 2021. Your child will be able to log into his/her account even though the school year has ended. As a parent, you can login using your child’s information to check on his/her progress. This will help to support your child’s transition to the next grade. If your child has difficulty using the program, please feel free to use flashcards or other online resources.

Take 2 Shabonee Library Books this Summer (Reminder)

All current 3rd-5th grade students can check out two books this summer and keep them until the first month of school, as long as they do not have any outstanding books or fees. 3rd and 4th grade students will return books to Shabonee, and 5th grade students will return books to Wood Oaks. More information and a digital copy of the permission slip for the Take 2 promotion can be found on the Shabonee library website.

PTA School Supply Kit Ordering (OPTIONAL) for incoming 2021-22 Grade 3, 4, & 5 Students

The PTA is looking forward to welcoming your child back to Shabonee in the fall! It’s that time of year again... As you know, the Shabonee PTA organizes school supply kits that you can order online and have delivered to your child’s classroom in lieu of heading to the store and purchasing supplies on your own. A great time and money saver!
