Shabonee Family Night Update!
Given the inclement weather expected this evening, Family Night is canceled. However, the tours of Shabonee will be modified to allow for families of incoming second graders from Hickory Point, and families new to Shabonee a chance to visit and see the inside of the school any time between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM this evening, May 20. We are asking for your cooperation to make this a quick visit and follow the steps below so that we can provide everyone who wants a visit the opportunity to do so.
- Enter at Door A (Main Entrance)
- Signs will be posted to guide visitors
- PTA volunteers will be present to help
- Please maintain distancing at all times
- It is recommended that visitors wear masks
- Classrooms will be locked
The third graders decorated their classroom doors to welcome our newest dolphins with information about the school year. Each door shares unique information about Shabonee to help our new friends feel welcome and get acclimated. Dr. Panozzo and Dr. Deely will both be present to welcome the children as they stop by.
Finally, the PTA will have spirit wear set up by Door A for families that want to purchase items. Ice cream “to go” will be provided as families leave. We graciously request that the ice cream not be consumed inside Shabonee. Thanks for your support and flexibility as the event had to be modified.
The annual Shabonee field day will take place on Tuesday, May 31. Activities will be scheduled during a portion of the morning and afternoon, both inside and outside. If the weather does not cooperate, we will only hold the indoor events. The PTA will be helping to coordinate parent volunteers. We need about 12 members of the PTA in the morning and afternoon to support the activities.
Children are encouraged to bring sunscreen for field day and dress appropriately for the weather and physical activity. Students must put on their own sunscreen or come to school with it already on and reapply during the day. Staff will not be expected to apply sunscreen to the children. Due to allergy issues, children will not be allowed to share sunscreen. We look forward to some fun as we celebrate the end of the school year.
The final day of school is June 1 (Reminder)
Shabonee has modified school hours on June 1. School hours are 9:00 AM to noon, and there will be no lunch period this day. School buses will run on a modified schedule to accommodate the change.
Chromebook Collection Dates
Students will be turning in their district-issued Chromebooks, chargers, and bags to assess each device and prepare them for the next school year. These items will be turned in on Friday, May 27, and Tuesday, May 31, during the school day. Please feel free to reach out to Shabonee Technology Specialist, Mr. Enfield, in the technology department if you have any questions or concerns.
PTA School Supply Kit Ordering (OPTIONAL) for incoming 2022-23 Grade 3, 4, & 5 Students
Make sure to check out the school supply ordering information in the PTA section of the newsletter. This is not a fundraiser but a cost-effective way to help support parents for the fall. Supply lists will be posted on the Shabonee web page this summer for families who choose to purchase supplies independently.
If your child purchased a PTA-sponsored yearbook earlier this year, they will come home with the kids on Friday, May 27. We will have class signature pages for all children that want one too.
Note from the Health Office
If your child has medication in the health office, please contact our nurse, Mrs. Woodward, to let her know if you want to pick up the medication or if your child should bring it home with them on the last day of school.
Take 2 Shabonee Library Books this Summer (Reminder)
All current 3rd-5th grade students can check out two books this summer and keep them until the first month of school, as long as they do not have any outstanding books or fees. Third and fourth grade students will return books to Shabonee, and fifth grade students will return books to Wood Oaks.
2022-23 School Bus Registration (Final Reminder)
Registration for bus service for the 2022-2023 school year opened on Tuesday, May 10. Please complete the online registration information and contact the District 27 business office should you have any questions.
4th Grade Band, Orchestra, Chorus Performance on May 25 (Final Reminder)
The Fourth Grade Band, Orchestra, and Chorus concert will take place on Wednesday, May 25 at 2:15 for the school via livestream. The livestream information will also be available for families to view during the school day. A link will pop up on the Shabonee website to view the livestream at 2:15.
The evening performance will take place at Wood Oaks Jr. High School at 7:00 PM in the big gym. Performers should wear their black District 27 music shirt, black pants or skirt, and black shoes. The evening performance will not be available via livestream.
The 7:00 PM performance will be limited to 2 family members per performer. Chairs on the floor will be arranged in pairs and spaced six feet apart. If sitting in the bleachers, please sit in pairs and maintain six feet of separation between other groups. It’s recommended that audience members remain masked when they are in the building. Younger siblings who are in attendance must remain seated and quiet during the performance.
