Shabonee Newsletter 12-14-18

Congratulations to our fourth and fifth grade students in band and orchestra for their terrific performance Thursday night. It’s hard to believe that our fourth graders have only been performing together as a group for a few weeks. A special thank you to band teacher, Ms. Valente, and orchestra teacher, Mr. Lograsso, for their work with the kids.

Winter break is almost here. Next Friday, December 21 is our last day of school before the start of the two-week hiatus. Classrooms will have holiday celebrations, sponsored by our PTA, on Friday from 2:40 to 3:10. Thank you to our PTA room parents for coordinating these exciting events for our students!  All District 27 schools will be closed during the break and school will resume on Monday, January 7.

5Essentials Survey for Students in Grades 4 & 5

Students in grades four and five will take the 5Essentials’ survey during the school day on Thursday, December 20. This survey is based on many years of research at the University of Chicago. Students’ identities will be completely confidential and teachers and administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions, only summary level responses.

Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of your student(s). Survey questions are available on the 5Essentials website. If you DO NOT want your daughter or son to participate, please fill out the opt out form and return it to the Shabonee office before December 20.

Lost and Found

We have many clothing items waiting to be reunited with their owner! All items are on display for children or parents to retrieve by the office for the next week. Anything remaining over the winter break will be donated. As a reminder, consider writing your child’s name on the tag of their jacket. We can return items when they are labeled.
